What is a Work Experience Gap Check?
A Work Experience Gap Check analyses periods without registered employment in a candidate's work history. The system automatically identifies uncovered periods based on the information the candidate provides, and gives the candidate the opportunity to explain these directly during the process.
Why does this matter?
A gap in a CV is not necessarily a problem. Many candidates have periods of study, parental leave, illness or job searching. By giving the candidate the opportunity to explain gaps directly in the process, you get a more complete picture. The candidate has the chance to provide context, rather than leaving you with unanswered questions.
How does the check work?
The check begins when the candidate registers their work experience. The system sorts all listed employment chronologically and automatically identifies any periods not covered by an employment entry.
If no gaps are detected, the check is completed automatically without the candidate needing to do anything further.
If one or more gaps are detected, the candidate flow pauses. The candidate is presented with each gap, including start and end date, and must provide a written explanation before they can continue. It is not possible to skip this step. All explanations are saved and linked to the check.
The time period analysed starts from the first listed employer and runs up to the point at which the candidate completes the check.
What is shown in the report?
For each detected gap, the report includes:
- Start and end date
- Duration
- The candidate's explanation
- Any remark and severity level added by Right Person
The report gives you a basis for an informed assessment, not a conclusion.
Does Right Person make a judgement on whether a gap is disqualifying?
No. Right Person presents the facts and the candidate's explanation neutrally. It is the organisation that determines whether a gap is relevant to the position.
